“So tell me about this guy Elise is engaged to.”

Camden sat on the second-story porch just off the main bedroom. He’d tucked himself in the corner of the sofa and Delilah had sat at the other end with her legs extended along the cushions, her bare feet propped in his lap.

“Antonio is amazing and they are so perfect together,” she told him, her voice dreamier than usual. “He’s so supportive of her and she’s the same for him. He’d come from his small town in Spain to do some tours of vineyards and distilleries for his family’s restaurants. He and Elise got locked in the cellar of the castle and apparently fell in love.”

Camden laughed as he slid his thumb up the arch of her foot and back down. They’d been out here since the sun went down and their wineglasses had been emptied, but neither was ready to get up. He was fine with that. The longer he had her relaxed and talking, the more hopeful he felt that she was coming around.

“That’s quite a meet story,” he replied. “I take it he’s moving here?”

“He’s going to be doing a great deal of traveling, but they will mostly be in Kentucky. They’re getting married at the castle. It will be our first major event and we’re planning to open it up for more after that.”

Camden nodded in agreement at the idea. “That sounds like a brilliant business plan. Turning an old historic castle into a distillery was your first excellent move. You guys have really tapped into something magical.”

“We have, but if the product isn’t good, then nothing we do will matter,” she explained. “I’m just glad we have that great gin that we were able to slide into the industry while we waited on the bourbon to age in the barrels.”

“You’re so damn sexy when you talk business.”

Delilah laughed and leaned forward to swat at his shoulder. “You always say that.”

“It’s true,” he defended, moving to stroke her other foot. “That intelligent mind of yours is just one of the reasons I fell so hard for you. You and your sisters were already in the process of perfecting your bourbon, you had the castle and had just finished renovating and then opened it to the public for tours. You were talking about the process of how to bottle and the goals you all had. It was amazing to watch you check each one off your list.”

Delilah tipped her head and rested it against the cushion. The stars shone bright tonight with the full moon. The subtle sound of the waves relaxed him even more. What if he’d taken her away on a trip like this from the start of their marriage? What if, instead of working his ass off to prove to her he could care for her, he actually showed her?

“I know your parents think I was struggling with Angel’s Share, but—”

“No.”

There was no way in hell he was going to let any negativity ruin their peaceful evening.
